How Private Health Insurance Works Baseline Services

If you have private health insurance in Australia, you may be able to claim part of the cost of your physiotherapy sessions and even your bike fit. At Baseline, our services are designed with this in mind - because all of our consultations are delivered by an AHPRA-registered physiotherapist and follow APA (Australian Physiotherapy Association) approved protocols.

Here’s how it works.

What you need to claim

To claim physiotherapy or bike fitting, you need extras cover with physiotherapy included. This is the part of your health insurance that covers services outside of hospital, like physio, dental or optical.

Claiming physiotherapy

Physio sessions at Baseline are fully claimable. This includes:

  • Injury assessment and treatment

  • Strength and conditioning programming

  • Extended consults for multiple issues

  • Ongoing rehab or injury prevention

Because these are standard physiotherapy consultations, they are claimable on the spot through HICAPS.

Claiming a bike fit

This is where Baseline is different. While a standard bike fit in a bike shop is not claimable, a Baseline Bike Fit is. Our bike fits are performed by a physiotherapist and billed as physiotherapy. This means you can swipe your health fund card and claim just like you would for a physio appointment.

It’s one of the big advantages of coming to a physio-led service — you get a bike fit that not only improves comfort and performance but is also eligible for private health rebates.

Claiming other Baseline services

Because our skills sessions and education offerings are integrated into physiotherapy consults and delivered under APA-approved protocols, these too can be claimable under private health. For example, if a skills analysis or biomechanics assessment is part of your physiotherapy consult, it will be billed as physio and therefore eligible.

This makes Baseline unique- you don’t just get skills coaching or a bike fit, you get physiotherapy-led sessions that help you ride better, stay injury free, and claim through your health fund.

How much will you get back?

The rebate amount depends on your insurer and your level of extras cover. Some funds give a set amount per consult, others pay a percentage of the fee. You’ll also have an annual claiming limit. To find out exactly how much you’ll get back, contact your health fund.

How to claim at Baseline

It’s simple:

  1. Bring your private health card to your appointment (assuming this is conducted from our Northcote home. If we’re meeting on the road I will send you an invoice following the appointment for you to claim in retrospect through your private health app or website).

  2. We process your claim instantly through HICAPS.

  3. You just pay the gap.

If you forget your card, you can claim online with your fund after paying in full.

Why Baseline?

Baseline brings everything together: physiotherapy that speaks your language, bike fitting that makes sense, and skills education that’s integrated into your physio care. Every service is physio-led, APA-approved, and claimable - so you get expert care and value for money.
