FAQ

  • I’m brand new to cycling, is this right for me?

Absolutely. Baseline was created for new riders who want to learn the basics and feel more confident on the bike. You don’t need any experience before coming to a session. I’ll meet you at your current level and make sure you leave with practical skills, knowledge, and confidence to enjoy your riding.

  • What do I need to bring to a session?

Bring your bike, helmet, and any gear you usually ride with. For strength coaching, wear comfortable clothing. If you’re booking a bike fit, make sure you bring your cycling shoes and bike.

  • Where are sessions held?

Most Baseline cycling skills sessions are Melbourne-based. Physiotherapy, bike fitting and strength sessions are run out of 191 Saint Georges with our neighbour being CoreTherapy. Cornering clinics are run at Teardrop in Hawthorn,

  • Do I need a road bike?

Yes. All Baseline sessions are run on road bikes. Road bikes are lighter and have narrower tyres, which makes them faster and more efficient on the road. This setup is important for learning bunch riding, cornering, and building confidence at speed. If you are currently riding a mountain bike or hybrid, I recommend making the switch before booking a session so you can get the most out of your experience.

  • Do I need to be fit to do a session?

No. You don’t need to be fit before booking a session - the point is to help you get there. All sessions are tailored to your current ability, and we focus on technique, confidence, and skills as much as fitness. As your cycling develops, we can adjust the intensity and goals to suit you.

  • What if I don’t have clip-in pedals or cycling shoes?

That’s not a problem. You can do Baseline sessions on flat pedals if that’s what you’re most comfortable with. The only requirement is that sessions are run on road bikes, as they’re better suited to group riding, cornering, and skills development. If you do plan to move into clip-in pedals down the track, I can guide you through the transition safely and help you practice the technique when you’re ready.

  • I can't see a time that suits me- what should I do?

If you can’t find a session time that works, reach out via the Contact page. We often open additional times or can arrange private coaching sessions to suit your schedule.

  • Can I book with a friend?

Yes. Many sessions can be booked as 2:1 coaching, which is a great way to learn with a friend. For example, Rolling Start is $250 solo or $160pp for two riders. Learning together can make the experience more fun and give you someone to practice skills with after the session.

Due to action plan development associated with Breaking Through sessions - these are only offered on a 1:1 basis.

  • Can I book a package or multiple sessions together?

Yes. Many riders get the most out of Baseline by booking a series of sessions to build their skills over time. You can combine different offerings such as a Rolling Start, Flow State cornering, and a Big Sister mechanics session, or book a follow-up package for skills like cornering. Get in touch if you’d like a customised plan or to bundle multiple sessions.

  • Can I claim Baseline services on private health?

Yes. Some some services at Baseline are claimable under standard private health extras cover. Services include cornering and acquisition, physio and bike fitting.

  • Do you offer event or bunch-ride support?

Yes. If you are nervous about joining a Melbourne bunch ride for the first time or want extra support at a cycling event, I can join you to guide, support and help you build confidence. This is offered on an inquiry basis, with pricing depending on the event or the time needed for bunch ride support. Send me a message through the contact page to chat about what you need.

  • Do you offer sessions on Mountain Bikes?

At the moment Baseline sessions are only available on road bikes.

If you’re looking to build confidence in bunches, cornering, or pacing, a road bike will give you the right setup to get the most out of your session. Once you’ve made the switch, I’d love to work with you.

In the meantime, you’re very welcome to book a physiotherapy consult, which would be a great ways to build cycling performance and prevent injury no matter what bike you ride.

  • Can you come to my club or team to run a clinic?

Yes. I regularly run skills clinics and workshops for clubs, teams, and community groups around Melbourne. Sessions can cover cornering, bunch riding, mechanics, or confidence skills, and can be tailored to the needs of your riders. Send me a message through the contact page to arrange a clinic for your group.

  • What happens if it rains on the day of my session?

If the weather isn’t suitable for riding, we can reschedule your session at no extra cost. Safety and quality coaching come first, and some skills are best learned in dry conditions. I’ll be in touch ahead of time if we need to make changes, and we’ll find a new time that works.

  • Do you work with other health professionals?

Yes. Baseline has a trusted directory of allied health professionals and specialists who support cyclists. If you need care or guidance outside of my scope, I can connect you with the right person so you get comprehensive support for your riding. Please refer to the Directory on the Contact page.
